Quote- "Without them there would be no water or air or rocks, no stars and planets, no distant gassy clouds or swirling nebulae or any of the other things that make the universe so usefully material. Atoms are so numerous and necessary that we easily overlook that they needn't actually exist at all."
Comment- It is weird to think that atoms make up everything they make up us, water, air and the universe but we don't see them and therefore we take them for granted. There are millions and millions of atoms everywhere and all around us. They are able to change shape, size, colors and everything. If we would think about all of the atoms that make up everything on Earth, the planets, stars and just everything it would be an extremely enormous number because atoms are so small we can't see them. There are just so many billions and trillions of atoms that it is hard to imagine when "there were no atoms and no universe for them to float about in." It is also hard to believe that out of nothing came something and that something makes up about everything in the world we live in.
Connection- Atoms are so small that many people don't even know about them. I remember I learned about atoms in 10th grade in chemistry class but before that I didn't know anything about atoms, I had never even heard about them. Atoms are everywhere and yet we hardly ever hear or talk about them.
Questions- Do atoms ever die? Are atoms "alive"? How did atoms show up if there was once nothing? How long have atoms been around? Is there proof of atoms being around billions of years ago? How would an atom look like? What makes an atom an atom? Do all atoms look alike?
I agree that it's weird how atoms are so tiny and make up such big things.
ReplyDeleteWe have got so many things on this Earth and it's crazy how we can't even touch or see atoms but yet there right before our eyes. It's crazy to fathom that out of nothing came something, in like Cristina said that something makes up everything, our universe, our existence, our world.
This quote makes you think of these beautiful little things and it is mesmerizing. It is interesting that all of these things in life would not be possible without these tiny things. Yet they are overlooked or forgotten. I agree with you in the fact that it is amazing how we take atoms for granted, because without them we would not exist.
ReplyDeleteCristina! My beautiful daughter<3 lol
ReplyDeleteI like your comment about atoms. It's true that the universe its made of atoms. I totally forgot about that. I also agree with your connection. A lot of people don't remember about the study of atoms or don't even know what atoms are. It reminded me of 10th grade when we were in the same class(:. I didn't know what atoms were either till I had chemistry too.
I like this quote because it is the reality of life. Atoms are so important for us because without them we wouldn't even be here today. I find it very interesting how society has hardly any idea of how essential they are for us. It isn't a daily thing we talk about. In fact, the only time we speak about atoms is at school or a specialist in science. Technology has taken over our lives and has made us not notice the most important things that once formed/created us.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great quote! It truly summarizes the importance of atoms; despite their size. Imagine all of the things we wouldn't have without atoms. We would practically have nothing, we wouldn't even exist! It is pretty simple to overlook the existence of atoms, yet we all know their importance.
